SMAOINTÍ DON LITIR/POINTS FOR LETTER
Ruairí Quinn, 1/5/2014
“the first idea I am committed to pursuing in education, is the idea of supporting inclusion and diversity in our schools”
Straiteis 20 Bhliain/20 year Strategy 2010-2030
RÁITEAS AN RIALTAIS I LEITH. NA GAEILGE 2006.
Cuspóir 6: Cuirfear oideachas lán-Ghaeilge ar ardchaighdeán ar fáil do dhaltaí scoile arb é mian a dtuismitheoirí/gcaomhnóirí é. Leanfar leis an tacaíocht do ghaelscoileanna ag leibhéal na bunscoile agus déanfar forbairt ar sholáthar lán-Ghaeilge ag leibhéal na hiarbhunscoile chun freastal ar éileamh de réir mar is gá.
GOVERNMENT STATEMENT ON THE IRISH LANGUAGE 2006
Objective 6: A high standard of all-Irish education will be provided to school students whose parents/guardians so wish. Gaelscoileanna will continue to be supported at primary level and all-Irish provision at post- primary level will be developed to meet follow-on demand.
Poinntí Eile
- Tá iallach ar an stát an Ghaeilge a chaomhnú agus úsáid na teanga a spreagadh (Alt 8, Bunreacht na hÉireann: Ós í an Ghaeilge an teanga náisiúnta is í an phríomhtheanga oifigiúil í);
- Téann cinneadh na Roinne Oideachais & Scileanna glan i gcoinne mo chearta mar thuismitheoir oideachas de réir ár gcuid sainmhianta a roghnú dár bpáistí (Alt 42, Bunreacht na hÉireann);
- Ní ionann soláthar scolaíochta agus soláthar ar ghaelscolaíocht
- Ní féidir leis na scoileanna sa cheantar freastal ar éileamh mar is éileamh ar scolaíocht lán-Ghaeilge atá ann – níl aon scoil lán-Ghaeilge eile ar fáil mar rogha do mo pháiste,
- Tá leatrom ar leith mo pháiste ata mar an páiste is sine sa chlann – tugtar tús áite do shiblíní de réir polasaí iontrála na scoile agus tá sé seo, gan aon locht ar an scoil, ag cur bac ar teaghlaigh nua cosúil linne freastal ar an scoil.
- The state is obliged to preserve the Irish language and encourage its use (Section 8 of the Constitution)
- The decision of the Department of Education and Skills runs contrary to my constitutional right as a parent to seek an Irish-medium education for my children (Section 42 of the Constitution);
- The provision of ‘a school place’ which is not in an Irish-medium setting does not satisfy the demand for the provision of Irish-medium education in accordance with my wishes;
- Other schools in the area cannot meet the demand for Irish-medium schooling – there are no other all-Irish schools available as an option for my child;
- The decision impacts in particular on children that are the oldest child in the family – siblings are given priority according to the school’s admission policy and this, through no fault of the school, is denying my family access to the school.
